I drove up to the North West from Lisburn today – which gave me a good chance to check out the Euro election posters and where they were clustered en route.
On the road out of Lisburn past the Ballymacoss estate Dodds posters dominated. Literally every lampost featured Ms Doods in her red top (is that a leather number?). Around Antrim Jim Allister adorned nearly every post – and, on some, he had a kind’ve double whammy gig going on. His cheeky little grin on some posts was adjoined with a bold, black text on orange background, horizontal jobbie. Visually awful but “in yer face” and orange. He also had a big trailer near the M22 featuring himself with an even more jaunty grin peering in the direction of a thought bubble featuring Gerry and Martin. Underneath the knock-it-home line, “The one they don’t want back” (or words to that effect).
Around Toombridge the only posters, really, were deBrun – the rest of the Parties obviously thought, “What’s the point?”
Nicholson, Parsley and Maginness posters were least in evidence – the big three candidates, based on poster count only so far, are Dodds, Allister and deBrun – roughly in that order. Needless to say, this will change and my report is qualitative and based on one journey.
