Can I point out one thing? It is utterly false for Lady Hermon to claim no-one from the DUP went to Constable Carrol’s funeral service.

Jimmy Spratt, the DUP Policing Board member was present at the service, the DUP Leader also visited Constable Carroll’s widow. I wonder did Lady Hermon visit the Mrs. Carroll or was being on TV at the funeral more important? Where I the family I know which would mean more to me: a private visit to my home, rather than a mad rush of politicians seeking to get on the new.

She should withdraw that outrageous allegation.

Like all NI MPs she is a great ‘hand-wringer’ – voicing the concerns of her constituents but never putting herself in a position at Westminster were she might exercise influence let alone power.
As for her disappointment about never having been addressed by Cameron – why would he? She is outside the party system of the UK and a totally unimportant figure. He offered her the chance to achieve something with her to-date pointless politcal career and she ducked it!

With all due respect “Editor”, David Ervine got more votes in his own constituency than the N.I. Conservatives got in the whole of Northern Ireland!

Stephen, I’m not sure I understand your comment. Lady Hermon is no leader. David Ervine was the spokesman for the political wing of a paramilitary organisation. Lady Hermon despises her own Party leadership, and loathes the Conservative Party even more. She is the leader of a Party of one – and she’s the only member. David had no electoral success and articulated confused and contrived nonsense. Look outside Northern Ireland to find great leaders. There are precious few here.

What is it about NI politicians and their desire for power but no leadership. Lady Hermon is a woman I know little about but from your notes on her comments it sounds like she hears and feels the need of others – not the order.

I recently came across this quote from David Ervine in 2002: “We are discussing a matter, for which the responsibility rests with Westminster. We shall take on the issues of policing and justice on the day that our Assembly comes of age. Then we shall be accountable and able to face the public in the knowledge that we shall be making the decisions on how they are protected in their homes, on the streets and in the schools”

Lady Hermon and the late Mr Ervine may well be from different ideologies but they had there heart in the need of the people – not obscure extreme.

More leaders like these are needed.
